Big Bend National Park

We stayed in Fort Davis at the Butterfield Inn prior to going to the park and visited McDonald Observatory which was neat. They offer tours or you can take a self-guided tour to parts of the complex. They also offer evening star parties. The drive was beautiful to and from the observatory.

We then stayed in the park at the Chisos Mountain Lodge and had great views from our balcony. We enjoyed a bottle of pistachio wine (from Las Cruces, NM) on the balcony during sunset. The sunrise, sunset, and stars were amazing. It was magical!

The Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive was pretty, and the Santa Elena Canyon hike was our highlight from the park. We saw multiple roadrunners! They are much smaller than we thought!

After leaving the park, we stayed in Fort Stockton at the Fairfield.  We went to the historic Grey Mule Saloon in Fort Stockton. One of the wines boasted a unique flavor of fresh cut grass and was surprisingly good!
