Mammoth Cave National Park
There are a lot of cave tour options at Mammoth Cave. The tours do sell out so it is best to make reservations in advance using the Recreation.gov app. We chose the Gothic Tour which focuses on the history of the cave. We liked the cave for its uniqueness. It does not have as many formations as other caves we have visited, but it is mammoth! The Gothic Tour would be good for people who do not like tight spaces since it is very open, and the walkway was easy to navigate. The description of the tour mentions that people with a fear of heights may have issues with the tour. Mrs. Vork has a fear of heights, so she was concerned about this before going, but it did not bother her at all. We are unsure what the disclaimer is referencing, but it may be the steps at the entrance to the cave. The historic entrance has a long staircase, but it is concrete with sturdy handrails, so it was not problematic for our tour. The tour guide was knowledgeable and engaging, and it was a great tour.
We stayed in Bowling Green, Kentucky at the Courtyard and had an excellent dinner at Montana Grille. We visited the park as part of a vork road trip. The next day, we headed toward New River Gorge National Park.
