Dry Tortugas National Park
Dry Tortugas National Park is a spectacular park! The water was so very pretty and blue. On the island, you can snorkel, explore the fort, and swim.
The top of the fort offers beautiful views, and we even saw a shark in the shallow water next to the shore when we were at the top.
The crew members on the boat were very kind, helpful, and shared lots of knowledge! Getting to the park can be a lot though. For some it may not be a problem, but many on the boat ride were seasick. I would estimate at least two thirds of the boat got seasick. We were told it was going to be a rough day on the water and were advised to take Dramamine which they were selling. We brought our own which we took, but unfortunately, we learned that the non-drowsy kind that we took, does not work as well. Mr. Vork got extremely seasick, but Mrs. Vork luckily only felt a little queasy. Where you sit on the boat matters too. If you are prone to seasickness, you should not sit on the second level like we did. On the return trip, we sat on the bottom, took the better Dramamine, and both of us felt much better! Even Mr. Vork, who was sick on the way out, said that it was so gorgeous that it was totally worth it. This was an adventure to remember!
To visit the park, we stayed in Key West which was so fun. Prior to going to Key West, we went to Everglades National Park and Biscayne National Park. The southern Florida National Parks are amazing!
